Our Town: Emily Webb

These costumes were designed for all three acts of Our Town. Through all of Emily’s you can see her growth. From the sweet, budding. innocent pink of her Act 1 dress, her blossoming, pure white, glistening wedding dress, to her confined, withered up, black suit which she sheds in Act 3; she grows and dies within her outfits. I chose to follow flower language in both my color choices, the silhouettes of her dresses, and in the actual flowers in the outfits. The white roses in her wedding veil stand for her happiness and her love while the white roses on her death hat stand for sympathy and humility. She feels bad for the living and what they don’t understand. The cherry blossom lapel Emily wears in Act 3 stands for being educated and wise.
